Possibilities: No End in Sight at Wakefield Middle

On Day 4 of our School Library Month celebration, we journey to Wakefield Middle School where school library media coordinator Kathy Brown and instructional technology facilitator Kristen Pearce work together to develop a learning environment that not only engages students but also allows them freedom of expression. Digging deeper than textbooks and sharing more than multiple choice answers on a test, students have opportunities in the library media center to interact in collaboration with one another and to communicate their thoughts, ideas, and understanding through poetry readings, green screen videos, digital breakouts, and group research.
We thank Kathy and Kristen for enabling a library media center where the students truly benefit from social and participatory learning practices. From independent reading to dramatic performance to content investigation, it's all happening in this student-centered library media program.
